Front Cover Textual Analysis

Masthead (logo)
The logo is front and centre of the magazine, the masthead is usually the first thing you see on the shelf when buying, so its important for it to be colourful and bold. (eye-catching)

Dateline
The dateline is below the the barcode - this shows when it was published.  The dateline can be useful for magazine subscription - so readers know what date new magazines can be delivered.

Main image

The main image is of Rita Ora - a global phenomenon from Kosovo. Rita inspires young musicians with her story and persuades others to speak up and take it to the top.

The main image has been partly covered with puffs - although, there are more pictures scattered saying whats in the magazine, like an informal contents page.
Coverlines

There are multiple coverlines on the front cover. They all advertise the stories within the magazine, like Rita Ora, JLS, Lawson - as well as Taylor Swift and Harry Styles.

Main cover line
The main coverline is for Rita Ora's story: "How cool is                                                                                   Rita Ora?" this technique is called "asking a rhectorical                                                                                   question" because you cant put an infinite measure on how                                                                             awesome somebody is.

Left third
On the left third of the magazine, there                                                                                                       are pictures scattered to say what other stories are within                                                                             the magazine. These include: JLS, Lawson - as well as                                                                                   Taylor Swift and Harry Styles.  All of these stories are                                                                                   probably on a single page or in the gossip section.

  1. Jessica, a decent start on textual analysis. You could be clearer on genre clues. Vanessa
