Textual Analysis for DPS (NME Magazine)

The pages are portrait, put together its landscape. More features are used on this spread, for example, much brighter colours like red and cyan. White, grey and black is also spotted around the spread.  The page is a lot brighter by far. The audience for this type of magazine is for young people/musicians.

The language used is formal. The story is about M.I.A’s journey as an artist from 2007 to present day. It also talks about her previous collaborations with artists such as Skrillex, Zayn, Dexta Daps, etc.

The picture has been taken at a high angle, because MIA is actually slightly looking up, not looking directly at the reader/audience. The picture is also very bright – so draws attention to her appearance.

The story is in columns – and drop caps have been used at the beginning. This gives the article a more formal and serious look overall.  It clearly isn’t just a pop article for kids.
